Cactus, (family Cactaceae), plural cacti or cactuses, flowering plant family (order Caryophyllales) with more than 2,000 species and about 175 genera. Cacti are native through most of the length of North and South America, from British Columbia and Alberta southward; the southernmost limit of their range extends far into Chile and Argentina. Mexico has the greatest number and variety of species. The only cacti possibly native to the Old World are members of the genus Rhipsalis, occurring in East Africa, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka. With current Cactus planting methods have allowed this plant to be plated all over the world. Although a few cactus species inhabit tropical or subtropical areas, most live in and are well adapted to dry regions.-Britannica

Planting in Pots

Select a container large enough to provide enough room for future growth. Make sure the container has drain hole(s) to allow for proper drainage.

  1. Fill pot about 1/3 full of Cactus Mix. Press down firmly.
  2. Gently remove plant from container, loosen roots, and place in pot. The top of rootball should be 1-2" below the rim of the pot.
  3. Finish filling pot with Cactus Mix pressing firmly as you go. Make sure the plant is not any deeper than it was in its original container.
  4. Water thoroughly and let drain.

Cuttings/Propagation
  1. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and insert cuttings in moistened Cactus to a depth of 1½" and tamp firmly to ensure contact with cuttings.
  2. Water thoroughly. Be sure to keep moist to the touch with a light spray or misting until cuttings have rooted.
