Diseases that infect underground plant parts are prevalent on both herbaceous and woody ornamental plants. Most nocturnal feeders like to hide under timber, and garden trash. The potential to cut down on these issues, starts with the type of mulch and proper mulching before considering pesticides.
Mulching is a protective covering spread or left on the ground to reduce evaporation, maintain even soil temperature, prevent erosion, control weeds, enrich the soil, or keep fruit (such as strawberries) clean. - Merriam-Webster
Our Cedar Mulch will bind the soil, and hold water on slopes. They are not fragranced, or colored.
Insects – If you’re using mulch for ground cover, you might as well consider something that will repel insects. Consider 100% Cedar Mulch, it will repel termites, cockroaches, cloth-eating moths, carpet beetles, and certain ants. Note: Some commercial mulch companies use recycled woods and added color. This type of mulch will decompose faster than natural mulch and may contain toxic ingredients that can affect plants, pets, and children.
Cedar Mulch Application
Over Mulching – Mulch application should be no more than 3 inches above the ground. This amount will guard against potential crown rot disease, slugs, and rodents that like to nest in the pile.
